Beautiful Drive on Grand Mesa and Hike to Lost Lake
With the weather beginning to change just like the colors around Western Colorado this weekend we had to get outside and enjoy the transition into the fall season. So my wife Savannah and I decided over a morning cup of coffee that we should go check out the beautiful color change up on the Grand Mesa which is the world's largest flattop mountain and hike to lost lake.
The drive was simple from our place after jumping on I-70 Eastbound through Palisade and taking exit #49. And it doesn't take long after that for the beautiful colors to be all around you. The drive took us less than 1 hour although we didn't pull off and take any photos on the way up. And we did decide to stop on the way back down after seeing the views and knowing where we wanted to stop for a photo.
When driving on the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway/ Hwy 65 you're going to want to pull off at the Mesa Lakes Lodge. You can pull down their road, with a nice store and restaurant there if you want to grab anything. If you're wanting to hike you can park at the Mesa Lakes Trailhead as the hike begins from there.
The beauty of Beaver Lake, Lost Lake, and all of the Mesa Lakes are amazing in the photos below but so much better in person. It is amazing to have this beauty within an hour of where we live and it costs nothing to check it out. Although there are bungalow and cabin rentals at the Mesa Lake Lodge if you want to stay the night.
