Papa George: Steamboat’s Baby Loving Nurse Retires After 20 Years

Papa George has been worked at the Steamboat Springs Birth Center for 20 years. After 20 years of loving and looking after babies, he's retiring.

Papa George didn't start his nursing career caring for tiny humans, but it is how it ended it. He started off a psychiatric nurse and then worked at his family's flooring business and then he made his way to taking care of little babies.

Once he saw a coworker feeding a baby in a rocking chair in the birth center at Steamboat, he knew he was in the right place. Working with babies came very naturally to George, according to the Steamboat Pilot.

He likes to call them "God's little miracles" and says his favorite part about caring for the babies is:

...the incredible potential waiting in those tiny wriggling fingers.

Having Papa George at the special care nursery at the Birth Center at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs has made a big difference for parents. George showed fathers how to be more comfortable taking care of their babies.

I hope that people in Steamboat Springs will continue to walk up to Papa Geroge and thank him for caring for their little ones. (And also show their little ones off.)
