New App Changing the Way We Can Hike on the Western Slope
The new National Parks App by Chiminai creates easier opportunities to hike on the Western Slope. The app will help hikers find their way around the park and identify different plant and animal species they might encounter.
Chimani hopes to reduce litter in parks because hikers won't need paper maps or park guides since all that information is in the app. Hikers can also take a picture of a plant (or animal) and send it back to the National Park Office with a GPS location, allowing the park to remove invasive plants that could damage the hike or environment.
No WiFi or data signal is required for most of the features in the app, making it safer for hikers who don't have cell service when they're out exploring.
National Parks by Chimani is free to download through the iTunes App Store, Google Play, or Amazon.
