I have a certain appreciation for cashiers---whether it be at the grocery store, department store, or fast food restaurant. I think my feelings about them stem in part from my own experience in the retail world. For one thing, it’s a thankless job. For another, it would seem by the very nature of the position there must be a sign attached to your forehead that says “COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT.”  And often times you get to deal with cranky, hard-to-please people. Besides that, the hours can be long and tedious. So whenever I run into a cashier who seems to go out of their way to make ME feel good about my purchase, I stand up and take notice.

The fact is there is a particular art to being a good cashier…from being as quick and efficient as possible to being genuinely friendly  and courteous to the customer, even  if the customer is not displaying any manner of  kindness.

Sometimes you run into cashiers who "act" friendly, but you can tell that it's not genuine, only a formality. Then I end up feeling like just another number.

In Grand Junction,  I have found the friendliest cashiers are at Chick-Fil-A. They make me feel glad that I'm there. Of course, they train their people to be that way. They don’t accept anything less. Other businesses would do good to follow that model. It also helps if you hire people who are naturally friendly and personable.

As far as grocery stores are concerned in Grand Junction, I have encountered some of the nicest cashiers at Albertson’s. I don't live close to one, so I don't get there as often as I would like, but they always make me glad I came.

Of course, there are other places with nice cashiers, but I need some help in identifying them all. I would like to do business  with them. If you have suggestions please add them below.
