The Mesa County Health Department is offering two flu clinics just for adults in October.

The clinics give adults the opportunity to get a flu shot without an appointment on October 17 and October 25 at the Health Department 510 29 1/2 Road Room 1060. The clinics will be open for walk-in adult immunizations from 8 a.m. until 3.p.m.

The Health Department says it takes about two weeks for the body to have the level of immunity to reduce the possibility of contracting the flu, so it is important to get the vaccination now.

Those taking advantage of one of the clinics should bring their insurance card. Uninsured residents are also invited to the clinics. The Health Department will work with you to ensure you get the vaccination regardless of ability to pay.

Flu shots are recommended for anyone 6 months or older. Parents who want their children vaccinated, or adults unable to attend one of the flu clinics, can make an appointment with the Mesa County Health Department by calling 970-248-6900.

Grand Junction businesses can schedule on-site flu vaccinations through the Health Department making it easier for employees to get their flu shot.

The Health Department will only be offering injectable flu shots this year as they have proven to be more effective.
