Horizon Dr. Incident Update: The Grand Junction Police Department reported that they have the man in custody following a SWAT incident on Horizon Dr. SWAT officers arrested 23-year-old Skylar Kesterson of Grand Junction. The felony warrants include one for armed robbery and two for failure to comply on felony menacing charges. This incident began at about 5:45pm, when detectives learned Kesterson, the man suspected of committing the armed robbery of the Check Into Cash store in the Rimrock Shopping Center in September 2012, was inside a room 107 at the Mesa Inn. Police officers responded in an attempt to get the suspect to come out on his own. During the ongoing negotiations, officers observed he was armed with a gun. Eventually the GJPD SWAT Team was called in to further attempts to get him to come out peacefully using the SWAT Bearcat vehicle. Kesterson refused to comply with the officers’ commands, and just after 11:30pm SWAT officers deployed tear gas into the room.
