Man Shooting At Cars In Gateway, Colorado Identified
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office has placed an Arizona man in custody on five counts of attempted murder after a shooting rampage near Gateway, Colorado.
The man, Rick Whited of Arizona was arrested and is being held on a 1 million dollar bond for attempted murder and felony menacing.
On Sunday, July 30, Whited started opening fire on cars near the Gateway Store hitting one car and causing a serious traffic issue. Gateway security was first on the scene, and they were shot at as well and were able to pin Whited down until help arrived.
There were no injuries as a result of the gunfire and Whited sustained minor injuries as a result of his arrest.
Highway 141 was closed for several hours and local residents were advised to stay in their homes during the incident.
Whited will be held in the Mesa County Detention Facility while awaiting trial. No mugshots have yet been released, and all documents related to the case have been sealed by the courts.
