If one of those apocalyptic movies came true and humans suddenly disappeared from Earth, what would really happen to the planet? Here's what science suggests.

When you consider all the bad things humans have done to destroy Earth, there's also plenty of good, too. If we suddenly became extinct, the planet would likely be worse than it is now, at least for awhile.

Natural balance would eventually return, but remnants of humans, especially things like plastics that don't decompose, would remain for a very long time. If nothing else, it's a good reason to recycle as much as possible.

Barring any natural catastrophe, I'd much rather see us stick around and take care of the wonderful planet we inhabit.
