Hungry Coloradoans are getting help from a government funded hotline to help them access local food help from both private and government resources.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, one in seven Colorado residents lives in a household that can't always afford enough food. We always see commercials on television asking for help to feed the hungry around around the world. While our heart goes out to these poor souls, the fact is there are a lot of hungry people right here at home. The good news in this country is that there is a great amount of help available for those who don't have enough food to eat.

The National Hunger Hotline staff connects callers with emergency food providers in their community, government assistance, nutritional assistance programs, and various services that promote self-sufficiency. During summer months, the hotline provides information about meal sites where children 18 years old and under can get free, nutritious meals through the USDA Summer Food Service Program.

The hotline can be reached at 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) Monday through Friday from 6am to 6 pm Mountain Time. Please pass the number along to someone you know who may be struggling in this area.
