Half of Western Colorado Pronounce This Popular Hiking Trail Wrong
It is my belief that half the people in western Colorado are saying it all wrong, but, I'm not exactly sure which half.
One of the great hiking spots on the Grand Mesa is the Crag Crest Trail. It's an extremely popular place to hike with spectacular views. But, what is the proper way to say it?
I have heard it pronounced two different ways so I am just confused. One way to say it, is the way it looks, which rhymes with flag. The other way is with a long "a".......like the town of Craig.
I have lived in the Grand Valley for 16 years and I'm embarrassed to say I have never figured out how to say Crag Crest. That all ends today. I'm asking once and for all. I hope to do that hike one day soon, and when I do, I am determined to call it by its rightful name when I tell everyone about it.
I may be in a minority, but I know I'm not the only person around here that isn't sure how to say Crag Crest, so help me out, and let's finally get this thing settled. It's way overdue.
