Let's Celebrate National Food Truck Day

According to Holiday Insights, this Friday is National Food Truck Day. The site reads:

National Food Truck Day, also called National Eat at a Food Truck Day, is today. School is out, and summer has arrived. Thousands of food trucks around the country have hit the road. Food trucks are largely run by local, small business entrepreneurs. You can find them at street corners, in parks, and at special events. When you eat at a food truck, you are supporting your local small businesses.

Quite the Phenomenon

According to Restaurant Engine, more than 2.5 billion people eat street food from a food truck every day! The website adds that while food trucks have existed in one form or another since well before the 21st century, their popularity caught its stride in Los Angeles in 2008. A trio of Los Angeles-based entrepreneurs earned national attention with their Kogi BBQ food truck.

Why We Love Them

The website Food Truck Bookings, yep, that's their name, Food Truck Bookings, posted "7 Reasons Why People Love Food Trucks." According to their list:

Grand Junction's Best Food Truck According To You

Between the initial list of candidates and your write-in votes, the list of area food trucks came to a total of 26. Can you believe that? Yeah, a total of 26 food trucks to choose from right here in the valley.

When the votes were tallied, these were the results:

Congratulations Nomad Bowlz! Talk about a landslide. Those write-in votes which make up the "other" category were added to the official ballot. The next four trucks receiving the most votes include Colorado Q L.L.C, Big Mikes's Pork & Wings, The Little Pink Truck, and Gumbo Luv.

Be on the lookout for all of these awesome food trucks at a Western Colorado event near you. You'll certainly spot them at local happenings, concerts, farmers' markets, and Food Truck Fridays. Even the Grand Junction Police Department hosts food trucks in their parking lot each Wednesday.
