Most people in Grand Junction never got the chance to know Addie Rae, but that hasn't stopped them from expressing their love and affection for the 3-year-old.

Adelesia was reported missing on October 3 from her residence on Orchard Avenue between 29 and 29 1/2 Road. A search for the little girl immediately commenced and after finding evidence that Addie Rae had been near the canal, the canal was drained while the search continued. Tragically, her body was discovered the following day in the canal near 29 Road.

I can't even begin to imagine the grief and heartache that Addie's family is going through. There's probably nothing worse than losing a child. I know that many prayers have gone up on behalf of the family for peace, comfort, and strength during this most difficult time.

The Grand Junction community is well-know for its kindness and generosity when people are in need and when they are suffering hardships. Such has been the case in the days following Addie's death and the community has grieved with this family.

If you have cause to traverse 29 Road, between Orchard Avenue and Patterson,  you likely have seen the memorial that was set up. On the bridge crossing the canal on 29 Road, just south of Graf Dairy, there has been a tremendous outpouring of love from community members for Addie Rae including signs, a myriad of stuffed animals, flowers, and other expressions of sympathy.

Recently, many of the tokens of love and sympathy have been removed, but some remain. The response of the community has been absolutely amazing as they have stood by this family to lift them up, encourage them, and to remember and honor Addie's short, but, precious life. If you didn't get a chance to see the memorial, I grabbed some photos to share with everyone that should serve as a reminder to keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
