Grand Junction residents were out in swarms this past weekend to check out the new Arc Thrift Store.

The store officially opened on February 24 in the Eastgate Shopping Center on North Avenue. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday. But, the store's first big Saturday sale was held this past weekend with a lot of the merchandise selling for 50% off. Obviously, a lot of people were curious about the new store and were also anxious to save some money.

Before I entered the store I had a feeling the Arc Thrift Store would be filled with people because the parking lot was jam-packed with vehicles. Once inside, I realized my feeling was correct. At one point, I counted no less than 60 people standing in line to check out. It looked like Chrismas Eve at Mesa Mall.

I was so intrigued by the huge throng of people I had a difficult time concentrating on the merchandise to see what was available and what the prices were like. I guess I will have to do that on my next visit. But, I can tell you the store had a very nice feel to it, seemed to be well-organized, and offered a huge variety of second-hand merchandise including clothes, shoes, luggage, furniture, housewares, toys, and outdoor gear.

The other thing I can tell you is that the donation process is super easy. Donations are received in the back of the building where workers are ready to unload your contributions. Check out the Arc website for a list of items they are unable to accept.

The new Arc Thrift Store in Grand Junction is the 31st Arc store in Colorado which provides funding to Arc Chapters which then are able to provide advocacy for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
