In the rush to get holiday shopping started, many stores have started opening on Thanksgiving Day rather than waiting until Black Friday. These Grand Junction stores won't be among them.

In case you haven't noticed, Christmas is already making an appearance at retailers and many stores will start in earnest to get shoppers to their stores in the first part of November, if not sooner.

With that in mind, Thanksgiving and Black Friday are becoming less important to retailers trying to get you to spend your holiday dollars at their stores.

However, the reason most retailers choose to be closed on Thanksgiving Day has nothing to do with shoppers and everything to do with employees.

These companies want their employees to spend time with family. Most believe Thanksgiving is an important huge family holiday. Plus, it offers a day of rest between the start and end of the busy holiday season.

According to BestBlackFriday.com there will be at least 65 major retailers closed on Thanksgiving Day. These are a just a few of the stores that you won't be shopping at.

  • Ace Hardware
  • Barnes and Noble
  • Christopher and Banks
  • Dress Barn (most stores)
  • Harbor Freight Tools
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • JOANN Stores
  • Lowe's
  • Office Depot/Office Max
  • Petco
  • Pet Smart
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • REI
  • Sam's Club
  • Sportsman's Warehouse
  • TJ Maxx
  • Tractor Supply Co.

You can also expect most locally owned stores to be closed on Thanksgiving Day. The owners and employees want to spend time with family as much as you do.

If you absolutely must shop on Thanksgiving Day, then head to Best Buy, Kohl's, Target, or Walmart who will reportedly be open with special Thanksgiving Day hours.
