Have you heard the awesome Irish music emanating from 3rd and Main in Grand Junction? Who's playing it, and where exactly will you find it?

For a few weeks now, people have flocked to 3rd and Main to catch an awesome duo and enjoy food and drinks. There's a new kid in town, and they're off to a great start.

The Irish duo you hear are Malcolm Smith and Phil Cristino. From time to time, they are referred to as the Grand Junction Jazz Experience. Other times they're simply Malcolm and Phil. In this case, you won't hear much in the way of Jazz.

Welcome the Goat and Clover Tavern at 336 Main Street. If that address sounds familiar, it's because it's the same location as Ella's Blues Room. Ella's is no more, but this new business really fills its shoes.

Not that long ago, Grand Junction residents could enjoy Irish music at Naggy McGee's at 4th and Colorado. Norm Ashley and crew used to host fantastic concerts at that venue. Unfortunately, the restaurant, and consequently the music, went bye bye.

What's the twist with the new joint? Well, live Irish music for starters. Let me tell you, it sounds amazing. It's mostly "dinner music," and as a result, you can enjoy conversation while soaking up the magnificent sounds.

I've enjoyed the opportunity to stop by and listen. For the record, bars really aren't my thing. I spent decades working in road bands, literally "living" in bars. Irish cuisine is not exactly my forte' either. The wonderful atmosphere, compliments of the live music, is right up my alley, though. I look forward to swinging by every Friday.

In the past, friends of mine would jump in the car with me and drive to Las Vegas to hang out at the Irish pub north of the Strip. Good News! We don't have to do that anymore. You can catch Malcolm and Phil at the Goat and Clover Tavern every Friday from 4:30 to 7.
