A kid from Grand Junction is facing a felony charge along with multiple misdemeanors. The kid started the Riverview Fire with fireworks which burned 9 acres.

On the Fourth of July, a juvenile set off illegal fireworks which ended up burning about nine acres in the Redlands. The Riverview fire burned nine acres stretching from the neighborhood to Connected Lakes State Park and forced people to evacuate their homes.

Thankfully, no homes were damaged and no one was hurt during the Riverview fire. The kid who set off the fireworks is now facing multiple misdemeanors and a felony charge.

According to KREX5, the juvenile is now facing the following charges:

  • Tampering with physical evidence - Felony
  • Arson charge - Misdemeanor
  • Unlawful use, sale or possession of fireworks - Misdemeanor

The juvenile is facing a felony charge because they tried to remove the fireworks from the scene, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
