After weekend protests turned into acts of vandalism, Colorado Governor Jared Polis has responded by describing the resulting damage as "acts of criminal terrorism."

Some of the destruction came to a family-owned Quiznos restaurant.

Denver police SWAT units were on the scene. Nine people were arrested, one officer was injured and the group mostly dispersed by 10:30 p.m.

Denver 7 reported that sometime before 9 p.m., a van arrived to provide protesters with umbrellas to use as shields.

Police used what appeared to be pepper balls, smoke and chemical munitions while protesters threw fireworks, according to Denver 7.
