It's about time someone came up with a marathon that doesn't require participants to be in top physical condition to compete and the Fruita 0.038 marathon is just that.

So what, you ask is a 0.038 marathon? It is that fraction in miles of a marathon distance. To put it simply, if you can walk, jog, or run one mile, this marathon is for you.

The marathon, on Saturday (November 5), starts and ends at Fruita Circle Park. The marathon is divided into three categories, Men's Open, Women's Open and Family Fun Run.

Following the marathon, runners and their support team can listen to great music, share stories of endurance that helped them complete the grueling run, grab some food and beverage, and check out wares from vendors.

The cost to participate is $10 per person and races start at 10 a.m. with the Women's Open. Advance registration is advised so there's not a marathon long line of people signing up the day of the event.

All runners will receive a pass to the Fruita Community Center and a sticker recognizing their marathon effort.

For those wanting a real challenge, there is also a true marathon, the Rimrock Run, over the Colorado National Monument. A half-marathon downhill on the Colorado National Monument is also an option. Fees for those events vary depending on the distance and number of runners.
