Forest Service Wants Your Help Revising Plan for Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests
The National Forest Service is working on a forest revision plan for the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison forests and wants your help crafting the plan.
The Forest Plan Revision first looks at the current conditions of these forests and then crafts ideas about what changes need to be made to the current plan.
The Forest Service has some ideas based on information they've collected including a scientific assessment of the forests. But that's only part of developing a revised plan which can take up to three years.
Because the forests are used by the public for recreation, livestock grazing, wildlife, timber, and mining, it's important to gather information from those who utilize the forests.
There are several ways people can get involved. One of the best is by attending a community meeting which allows Forest Service officials to present their findings and ideas, while also collecting thoughts and ideas in a public forum.
Some of the meetings scheduled are as follows:
- July 25 - Delta at Lincoln Elementary School, 1050 Hastings Street
- July 27 - Gunnison at Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center, 275 South Spruce Street #A
- August 1 - Ridgway at the 4H Center, 22739 US Highway 550
- August 3 - Grand Junction at Lincoln Park Barn, 910 North 12th Street
All meetings are from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and attendees are asked to RSVP online for the meeting(s) they will be attending so the Forest Service planning team can have enough information and seating available.
There are additional meetings scheduled in August and The National Forest Service has a complete list of upcoming community meetings on their website.
