Today (November 7) is National Stress Awareness Day. I'm not sure I want to be aware of my stress, but I do realize that stress is a killer and we need to be mindful of our circumstances.

I don't think there's one person out there who can say they enjoy their stress. Maybe a challenge, but not the stress that takes you out.

Stress isn't good, but it can help your body in certain situations. It's a way for your body to survive, but stress can also kill you if you're not in tune. The toxins that stress produces in your body can be extremely alarming.

I've noticed since I've been in Grand Junction everyone works so hard. If you're one that needs to take a "chill pill" and you know you need to take a step back and relax I got five great stress relievers for you.

1. Massage at Rimrock Wellness

Sometimes just having a deep tissue massage can get those toxins out of you and make you feel so much better. It also can force you to relax for an hour like it or not.

2. Take A Hike

There are so many beautiful trails here in Grand Junction. Whether or not you take a half day off and explore the glorious adventures that surround you, or take a quick hike at Devils Kitchen Trail, it's an excellent way to process your thoughts and relax.

3. Eat well

The famous saying "you are what you eat" is so true. Eating well has enormous benefits to your body. Certain foods can fight stress in your body. If you eat foods that are heavy it makes you feel heavy. Take a load off and eat right.

4. Exercise

I know ... I know ... the word exercise can stress anyone out but it's amazing after you get over the fear of working out it does wonders for the body. Your endorphins get all happy in your brain and you feel fantastic!

5. Go Old School

No technology, no emails, so nothin'! For the ladies, invite some friends over for dinner, movie, and wine. For the gentleman, pizza, beer, and football. Totally being stereotypical, but my point is to enjoy good company. Laugh and relax. You'll be happy you did.
