Durango Travelers Will Soon Have a Direct Line to Sin City

Durango-LaPlata County Airport announced today Frontier Airlines will soon offer year-round nonstop service between Durango and Sin City. Before long, southwestern Colorado travelers will fly straight to Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport.

If this weren't exciting enough, the airport also announced the return of seasonal nonstop travel to Denver International Airport.

Durango La Plata County Airport issued a press release this morning with all the exciting news. These flights will be available before you know it.

Viva Las Vegas.

Frontier's service from Durango to Las Vegas will commence on June 11, 2021. Flights will be available two days per week, Monday and Friday. Think about that for a moment. You fly out on Friday. What happens over the next 72 hours is entirely your business. Then on Monday you return and face the music. Sounds like a plan to me.

What about Denver?

Good question, "What about Denver?" My only use for Denver is to drive through it on my way to someplace important. Well, that's my attitude. If you have a desire to fly from Durango to Denver, Frontier's services will resume on June 4, 2021. Denver flights will be offered four days per week during the initial summer period. Departures are available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

I did one of my notorious "Poor Man's Ticket Tests" and was shocked by what I saw. I did a test run to buy a ticket leaving Durango on June 11, 2021, landing in Las Vegas, and then returning on June 14. Take a wild guess how much the round-trip ticket came to.

Okay, guess again. You're way too high.

The total round-trip ticket cost came to $76. That's what I said, $76. Seriously, just the other day I paid more than that for dinner-for-three at a tacky steakhouse.

Here I come.

Look out Las Vegas, I'm on my way. Historically, I've always driven to Las Vegas. It's a pleasant drive... the first 75 times you make it. After that, it gets a bit tedious. I haven't been to Durango in over 20 years. My plan - a relaxing, scenic drive to Durango, board the plane, and land in Las Vegas. From there, ride the shuttle to the Flamingo, and spend the rest of the trip on foot. Most of the good shows are at that end of the Strip anyway. Oh yeah, and then there are the Denver flights, too.
