Now that your children have been in school a few weeks, you probably have a pretty good idea of how well they're learning. As a parent, you want to give your child every opportunity to get a great education including all the supplies to be successful in school. However, there is one supply you probably don't need to spend your hard earned cash on.

Companies have been sending sales people door-to-door, mailing what looks to be important school information or emailing parents and students with educational aids implying they are essential for student success.  According to a District 51 spokesperson, they do not typically endorse materials sold door-to-door or solicited through the mail nor the companies selling them.

Before buying anything, talk to your child's teacher to see if extra study aids might be helpful.  That way, if you do need extras you can focus only on the materials your child actually needs. In many cases, your child's teacher will have materials available that are low-cost or free.  And if you do decide to buy, make sure the company you're buying from is reputable.

So, before loading up your child with extra homework, make sure you do yours first.  In the end, you'll both be better educated.
