Over 300 residents have been ordered to evacuate their homes due to the growing Deer Creek fire.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen as well as flames flying up from the blaze that was measured last night at 13.5 acres and firefighters are hoping to lay down a fire line this morning in an effort to cut the blaze off from its fuel source.

Firefighters are saying the wind is actually pushing the fire back on itself, which is also helping efforts to contain the blaze but are hoping for some air support today in an effort to douse the fire completely.

Several agencies have been dispatched to help combat the blaze in Jefferson County, the cause of which is still under investigation. A family of hikers was found and removed from the blaze area, and at this time no injuries have been reported and no residences have as yet been consumed.
