December brings lots of holiday events to the Grand Valley and one you might not want to miss is at Cross Orchards Historic Site.

The 30th annual Model Train Christmas Show is happening on weekends during December so there are plenty of opportunities to get the family out to this event. The event runs from 10-4 on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Grand Valley Model Railroad Club will be showcasing its model trains through western slope displays. The Rio Grande Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society will also have the Uintah Railway exhibit open featuring the Uintah Caboose #3.

Guest can enjoy hot cocoa and cookies and view the model trains. Meanwhile, outside, the Cross Orchards ride-on train will be giving rides through the orchards and Santa will be handing out cookies in the historic bunkhouse.

Many of us can remember those toy and model trains we enjoyed as kids. In fact, it seems I can still smell that train going around the track in my bedroom. It was a very distinct smell and still, today holds a great memory. I can't help but wonder if today's kids are interested in model trains. If not, they are missing out on some good times.

Admission to the train show is $4 for adults, $1 for kids, and $7 for families. Train rides are $2 for adults and $1 for children.

The Cross Orchards Historic Site is located at 3073 Patterson Road in Grand Junction.
