Central High School Getting First School Based Health Center

Central High School is the first District 51 school to get a school-based health center. The students will be able to get help with physical and mental health.

District 51 is implementing school-based health centers, starting with Central High School. Central High School students will be able to get immediate help if they're feeling sick or are dealing with mental health issues, according to Western Slope Now.

Construction on the school-based health center has already started. They started building the school's health-based center in mid-November. According to Jacob Bopp, a senior at Central High School, the clinic will help address a serious crisis. He says when it comes to mental health, the conversation and mental health help is lacking.

Central High School was chosen to get the first school-based health center in Mesa County because of a survey that indicated that health care in this area is inadequate. The school-based health center will be run by Marillac Health.

This school-based health center will include the following:

• Full-time medical assistant
• Behavioral health provider
• Front desk worker
• Mid-level health care provider
• Quarter-time dental hygenist

Central High School's principal stated that when you're healthy, you're learning more. Principal Lanc Sellden goes onto say that includes your mental, dental and physical health.

The students will pay for any treatment they receive at the school-based health center through their family's insurance and if they can't afford it, Marillac Clinic will absorb it.
