September 26 is the day we celebrate "National Pancake Day." If one wanted to go out and celebrate in style, where would they find Western Colorado's best pancake?

National Pancake Day started out in 2005 as Lumberjack Day. A couple of people created the holiday as an excuse to eat pancakes and waffles. Does a person really need an excuse? In this day and age, you can find national chains, mom and pop joints, and even all-you-can-eat buffets serving pancakes 24/7.

Personally, I'm not much of a pancake fan. They have little or no nutritional value, and typically feature one thing I simply can't wrap my brain around, namely maple syrup. The other flavors like blueberry, well, that's a different story. Some restaurants in the valley offer locally produced peach and apricot syrups. Now we're talking.

While most pancakes are good, some places, typically the national breakfast chains like Denny's and IHOP, can really get them down to a science. I guess when you make 10,000 of the things a day, you start to get it right on the money.

Mary's Restaurant on Orchard Mesa makes a pretty good pancake. Again, pancakes aren't my thing, but when you order an omelet at Mary's, they come with a side of two medium sized pancakes.

When you go out tonight to celebrate National Pancake Day, where are you going to go? Do you plan to go chain, or with a local restaurant? Perhaps you plan to make your own and shape them to look like Mickey Mouse. My mom used to do that back in 1974. What's the plan?

Below you'll find a list of Western Colorado restaurants serving pancakes. If we missed one, write it in, and we'll add it to the list. Cast your vote!
