As citizens of western Colorado communities like Grand Junction, we are blessed to have great local police, fire, and other first responders. Now, there is an event to give them our blessing.

On Wednesday (June 22) at 7 a.m. there is a special mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Junction for members of law enforcement, firefighters, first responders and members of the judiciary.

The event, called a Blue Mass, is celebrated at Catholic Churches around the US as a way to honor those who have given their lives in service and offer prayers for those currently serving their local communities.

The event also includes a special blessing of the badges and vehicles used by the various agencies.

The Mass, directed by Father Henry Wertin, is open to the public and gladly invites members of all faiths and beliefs to participate and show their support for those who tirelessly to keep us safe.
