According to news stories from United Press International (UPI) and The Christian Science Monitor, archeologists claim to have found the ancient Biblical town of Dalmanutha (also spelled Dalmanoutha).

The town is described in the New Testament (in the Gospel of Mark) as the place Jesus sailed to after multiplying loaves of bread and a few fish to feed a large crowd of people.

The town was found in the northwest coast of the Sea of Galilee, in Israel’s Ginosar valley and it reportedly dates back more than 2,000 years.

Ken Dark of the University of Reading, whose team discovered the town during a field survey, told UPI that he isn’t certain that the town is in fact Dalmanutha, but there is evidence that supports the idea.

The evidence the team found suggests the town was prosperous in ancient times.

So far, the name Dalmanutha has not been permanently linked to any other archeological site.
