Grand Junction area singer/songwriter Gary Russell performed a brave act in support of a young lady battling brain cancer.

The next time you see Gary performing around the valley, you'll notice he bears a striking resemblance to Sigourney Weaver in Aliens 3. What happened?

Was Gary the unwilling recipient of a Harlem Haircut? Not at all. Via Facebook Gary commented, "Had to... no question... brain cancer can get effed."

During the shutdown, Gary Russell became something of a social media wizard. He offered numerous live stream performances for his fans. In the process, he became ultra computer-savvy. He's now taken this skill to a new level.

I contacted Gary to ask what inspired him to do this. He replied:

Little girl's name is Jocelyn. Battling brain cancer. She's been circulating around social media and people are sharing her story and fight. 1000's of people are doing what I did.

As it turns out, this is a campaign circulating via TikTok inspiring users to join "Team Jocelyn" by shaving their heads. Gary heard the call and chose to participate. According to RightThisMinute, Jocelyn Ducharme was diagnosed with ATRT brain cancer at 17 months old. She has since endured multiple treatments, transplants, and surgeries, and was eventually declared cancer-free in March of 2020. Jocelyn's cancer returned in July, causing her to have to re-start treatment and shave her head.

Kudos to you, Gary Russell. Thank you for lending your support. Of course, I don't believe I've ever seen you not wearing a cowboy hat, so it's unlikely any of us will see your new look.
