Ute Water Asks Residents to Fix Leaks to Prevent Water Waste
Hundreds of millions of gallons of water are wasted each year by leaking pipes and Ute Water is asking Mesa County residents to fix their leaks during Fix a Leak Week.
Ute Water along with other water experts are sharing information for Fix a Leak Week March 14-20.
One of the jaw-dropping facts Ute Water shared is leaky pipes account for 60% of wasted water. That waste costs water users $14 billion a year.
In the US alone, leaks add up to one trillion gallons of water per year. That's enough water to supply 11 million homes.
A faucet or shower head that drips as little as 10 times per minute wastes 500 gallons of water over a year's time. If that same drip were to happen once every second, the waste would equal 3,000 gallons.
If you would like more information or need some tips on locating leaks, the Fix a Leak Week website may help.
Ute Water customers can also contact them or their water provider if they suspect a leak but aren't sure how to get started finding it.
