USA Today Names Colorado’s Influential ‘Women of the Century’

These women have truly made an impact on others and the world.

Although it may feel otherwise, there are some silver linings to the year 2020. Not everything happening this year is bad. One of those happy things happens to be the 100th anniversary of the women's suffrage movement. It was in 1920 that women were given the right to vote with the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

To celebrate that, USA Today has put together a Women of the Century list.

This list is filled with influential women who have left their mark or who are continuing to make a difference in this world. They are successful, intelligent and have played a role in furthering the rights of women everywhere. The list features women in all 50 states and US territories.

Here are the women representing Colorado on the list:

Hattie McDaniel - The first African American to win an Oscar

Temple Grandin - A world-renowned professor of animal science and autism advocate

Ellis Meredith - A political journalist

Madeleine Albright - The first female US Secretary of State (pictured above)

Justina Ford - The first African-American female doctor in Denver

Mildred "Babe" Didrikson - An Olympic gold medalist and accomplished multi-sport athlete

Antoinette "Tony" Perry-Frueauff - A stage actress and director whose work inspired the creation of the Tony Awards

Marilyn Van Derbur Atler - A former Miss America, author and motivational speaker

Lily Nie - An adoption advocate and founder of Chinese Children Adoption International

Margaret "Molly" Brown - A civil rights advocate known posthumously as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown"
