Here in western Colorado we often think of prairie dogs as a nuisance because they burrow in fields. They are often thought of as not very bright since they seem to dart out into the road to get run over by oncoming traffic. This video shows the rodents are much more complex than we give them credit for.

This also shows how protective even a prairie dog mother is of her young. I wasn't sure the prairie dog would survive, but she showed real tenacity when it came to making sure the snake left not only her burrow, but others too.
