Sound of Gunfire On Orchard Mesa is Law Enforcement Training

Activity at the old Orchard Mesa Middle School over the next few weeks may look like an emergency, but it's really just police training.

Several times over the next few weeks the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office will be conducting training sessions at the site and they want to let the public know what's going on. They say people may hear muffled sounds of simulated gunfire coming from inside the building, but should not cause alarm. You might notice law enforcement vehicles on the north side of the property during training times.

Anyone with concerns can go to the school district website where up-to-date information would be posted if it were an actual emergency.

The scheduled training times are as follows:

January 7 - 8 am-  4 pm
January 13 - 8 am - 4 pm
January 15 - 1 pm - 5 pm
January 18 - 1 pm - 5 pm
January 22 - 1 pm - 5 pm
January 25 - 1 pm - 5 pm
January 29 -1 pm - 5 pm
February 1 - 1 pm - 5 pm
