Rocky Horror Picture Show Returns to the Avalon
The classic cult movie Rocky Horror Picture Show returns to the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction on Halloween.
For a movie that bombed at the box office in 1975, Rocky Horror has taken on a life of its own over the years and has developed a cult following. There are diehard fans who keep coming back time and again to follow the antics of Dr. Frank -N-Furter and the cast of crazy characters.
Then there are those who are coming out of curiosity. After all these years they just have to experience the mystique of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I've seen it once, but it wasn't on the big screen. I was one of those "curious" movie watchers who just had to find out what the fuss is all about. Honestly, for me, once was enough, but I know others have seen Rocky Horror as many times as I've seen the Wizard of Oz - which is a lot.
One interesting fact about Rocky Horror is about a rock and roll icon who isn't in the movie, and one who is. Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger reportedly wanted to play the role of Frank-N- Furter( played by Tim Curry) but obviously isn't in the movie. However, I'd Do Anything For Love singer Meatloaf is a member of the Rocky Horror cast.
Regardless of which camp you are in, if you aren't doing anything on Halloween and you don't really feel like giving out candy to trick-or-treaters, you might want to get with some friends and make a night of it at the Avalon in downtown Grand Junction.
The pre-party begins at 7:00 with appetizers and socializing. The admission price of $25 includes appetizers, a drink ticket, and a prop bag that will be utilized during the movie. A full bar and concessions will be available for purchase. Everyone attending is encouraged to dress up in costume for a chance to win a prize.
The movie will start at 9:00 and the run time is about an hour and 40 minutes. Tickets are available at the Avalon Theatre box office and their website.
