The Marshall Tucker Band will hit the Avalon Theatre stage this summer.

With over 20 studio albums to their credit and seven live albums, a band that got its start back in the early 70s is going strong with founding member and lead singer Doug Gray.

It's not that the band had a ton of radio hits, yet, everybody knows the Marshall Tucker Band. That's primarily because of the song Heard It In A Love Song which cracked the top 40 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts in 1977. You might remember songs like Desert Skies, Can't You See, Long Hard Ride, or Hangin' Out in Smokey Places, but everybody loves Heard It In A Love Song.

The Marshall Tucker Band is primarily known as a southern rock band, but, they were all over the place as far as the charts were concerned with their songs appearing on the Hot 100, Adult Contemporary, and Country charts. They play everything from country and blues, to jazz, rock and roll, and" everything in between," according to their website bio.

When I think of the Marshall Tucker Band I draw a comparison to Lynyrd Skynyrd - a southern rock band that didn't have a ton of hits but was wildly popular and remained so through the decades. MTB fans love their music and are still coming out to relive some of that great music of yesteryear which seems to be a vanishing breed.

The Marshall Tucker Band appears at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction on July 30. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10:00am at Ticketmaster and the Avalon Theatre Box Office.
