An Easy Way to Stamp Out Hunger in Grand Junction
Every year, the employees of the United States Postal Service hold a huge food drive to Stamp Out Hunger and it's easy for you to help.
This year, postal workers are asking their customers to donate healthy nonperishable food. Foods low in sodium and sugar are ideal.
Some suggestions include beans, canned tuna peanut butter, soup, canned vegetables, pasta and sauce, cereal, oatmeal or other whole grain, canned fruit, canola or olive oil, and canned meat.
Please make sure the foods you donate aren't expired or in glass containers as they will have to be discarded or may break in transit.
If you don't receive one of the handy plastic bags from the Post Office for your items, any plastic grocery bag will work.
On Saturday, May 13 before your mail arrives, set out the bag or bags by your mailbox, or the place where you pick up your mail, and postal workers and volunteers will pick them up.
Food collected from the Grand Junction Stamp Out Hunger food drive stays in Grand Junction to be distributed through local food banks.
