The Palisade Bulldogs were mauled by the Rifle Bears. Yes, it is an old and awful cliche', but it really fits in this case. The number one ranked Bears came to Stocker Stadium to play the number two ranked Bulldogs in class 3A play Thursday night (October 4th) in the first of three nights of high school football for the Grand Valley teams.

What everyone was expecting to be a hard fought and close game ended up looking more like a exhibition scrimmage for the Bears, as they went on to win 31 to 3. The Rifle offense were already ahead 17 to zero at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs did manage to put 3 points on the books before halftime. Palisade was late returning to the field after halftime, and were charged with a delay of game penalty, so the fans were hoping that the team was being fired up by their coach. It seems he was telling them to take the rest of the night off instead. Palisade was just not able to get a ground game going, and when they went to the air, it was either not caught, or worse yet, caught by the Bears. The undefeated Rifle Bears remain undefeated at 6-0 in class 3A, and Palisade falls to 5-1, and will surely be falling in the Colorado state rankings also.

Game Two of the three nights of inter-valley play will showcase the Central Warriors hosting the Fruita-Monument Wildcats in a Southwest Conference game that the winless Warriors are hoping to get their first tick in the "W" column out of.  The 4-2 Grand Junction Tigers will be wrapping up the weekend at Stocker hosting the 2-3 Durango Demons in another Southwest Conference game.

All of the games can be heard on the air on 95.1 FM for this extended Friday Night Lights weekend or online at www.95rockfm.com. The pre-game show will start at 6:30 P.M. each night as Tommy and Kevin with call all of the action for you if you cannot make it to the stadium. With cooler weather moving into the region this weekend, be sure to bundle up and get out to enjoy some great local high school football this season. Be sure to look for the complete weekend High School Western Slope wrap-up right here every Sunday.
