Need Hunting or Fishing License to Access Areas by CPW
Colorado Parks and Wildlife and trying to spread the word that beginning tomorrow (July 1, 2020) all visitors 18 or older must possess a valid hunting or fishing license to access any state Wildlife Area or State Trust Land leased by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
In a post made on Facebook this change was made because these properties have always been available to everyone, not just hunters and anglers that purchase the licenses and pay for the land maintenance, many visitors use these areas as they would any other public land. Basically everyone needs to be paying for the land maintenance if everyone is going to use it, which makes sense.
There has been a significant increase in traffic in these specific areas which has already disrupted wildlife, hunters and anglers were a huge help in acquiring these properties so it is important to keep them as nice as possible for years to come.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Director, Dan Prenzlow said, "This new rule change will help our agency begin to address some of the unintended uses we’re seeing at many of our State Wildlife Areas and State Trust Lands".
If you want to know more about the rule change and the specific details you can read the news release done by Colorado Parks and Wildlife by clicking here.
For most people this is common sense but please as we approach this upcoming 4th of July holiday if you do get outdoors remember to leave any area better than you found it. Pick up after yourself and if you can pick up any other garbage along the way, know that your efforts to keep Colorado beautiful are appreciated.
