Murder-for-Hire Colorado Woman Pleads Guilty in Brother’s Death
It sounds like a story you would likely see on NBC's Dateline, or perhaps the latest Lifetime Channel movie. A perverted scheme in a twisted family, motivated by selfishness and greed.
The woman is 64-year-old Carol Baker of Greeley. She reportedly worked a deal to pay her son and his wife $10,000 and a motorcycle in exchange for the murder of her brother. The motive was apparently $123,000 in life insurance money, and Baker was the beneficiary.
Carol Baker's brother, the 59-year-old Randy Baker, was fatally shot in August of 2017. Her son, Kelly Raisley pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is serving a life sentence, while Raisley's wife, will be sentenced in January. Meanwhile, Randy Baker's wife, Kelly Lynn Baker will go to trial in January on charges of first-degree murder.
A wife, a sister, and a nephew all conspiring to commit one horrific crime against their relative for a few dollars. Families are supposed to be safe havens in a mixed-up world, but, obviously, that isn't always the case.
If you are blessed to have good family relationships, count yourself fortunate and do whatever you can to foster those family ties. If there is one thing that can stand strong against the seduction of greed, it's love.
The money will never buy happiness, and its pleasure will be fleeting. As the old song says, "what the world needs now is love sweet love. It's the only thing that there's just too little of."
