Standoff With Mesa County Sheriff Deputies Sends Four to Jail
A standoff Monday night (March 28) with Mesa County Sheriff Deputies and SWAT resulted in four people arrested on numerous charges.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office Street Crimes Unit, acting on information about a man wanted for outstanding warrants, found the suspect at a residence in the 500 block of Highway 50.
When Deputies tried to talk to 29-year-old Kevin Anderson about those warrants, he and three other people in the residence barricaded the doors and windows.
Disappointed but not deterred, Deputies asked members of the Grand Junction Police Department and Sheriff's Office SWAT team for some help.
To give the subjects in the home motivation to leave, chemical munitions (defined by the Sheriff's Office as "like tear gas") were deployed into the house.
Authorities then removed and arrested Kevin Anderson, Savannah Wright, 28, Shauna Smith, 29, and Daniel Sasser, 49. Three of the four, Anderson, Wright and Sasser had outstanding warrants. Authorities also searched the home and found guns and drugs.
All four suspects are facing felony charges of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, and Possession of a weapon while distributing or manufacturing a controlled substance.
Other possible charges include Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Obstructing a Police Officer.
