How’s the Highway 340 Resurfacing Project been treating ya so far this year? That work on Broadway is scheduled to be ongoing through August. In addition to the Redlands resurfacing, a new project is underway, also along Grand Junction's Highway 340.

The Broadway (CO 340) and 23 Road Roundabout construction is here. Why do we need another roundabout just down the road from the Broadway/ Redlands Parkway Roundabout?  Here’s what’s going on.

Grand Junction’s latest roundabout is being built to accommodate the expected growth associated with Redlands 360. This is a master-planned development on the south side of Highway 340. If you enjoy the 23 Road trails, public access in this area will likely look different in the years ahead as progress is made.

The plan calls for 1300 homes over the next 15 years. These new residents will increase traffic volume, and the city hopes the roundabouts will help control the additional flow. This project’s footprint will allow for the roundabouts to be expanded in the future as needed.

How Traffic Will Change During Construction

Grand Junction, Mesa County, and CDOT are all a part of the Broadway and 23 Road Roundabout project. Project officials say Broadway (CO 340) will remain open for most of the project with occasional lane reductions, flagging operations, reduced speed, and shifting traffic patterns. Access to 23 Road might be restricted on the south side of Highway 340, closest to the Redlands 360 development area.

Roadwork for the roundabout started on June 1. Construction is scheduled through December 2026 (weather permitting). If you regularly travel between the Redlands and Central Grand Junction, expect traffic to be impacted regularly for the duration of the project. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians should expect additional roadwork on Broadway (CO 340), especially east of Redlands Parkway.

With back-to-back roundabouts in place, traffic will likely feel a tad slower for a while once the work is done.

Look: Grand Junction’s 5 Worst Intersections Might Surprise You

New data shows five major intersections across the city recorded more than 100 crashes each between 2018 and 2024. The numbers are sparking fresh conversations about congestion, growth, and whether parts of Grand Junction’s road system are keeping up with rising traffic volumes. Crash data from the Mesa County Safety Action Plan (2018 and 2024).
