The idea of getting through airport security in 5 minutes or less seems as impossible and unlikely as Moses crossing the Red Sea. But, just as the impossible became possible for Moses and the Israelites, it has actually become possible to zip through airport security in flash.

So, what's the secret?

The key to fast security is to get pre-screened, which means not having to remove your shoes, laptops, liquids, belts, and light jackets. More than 9 million people have become TSA Pre members and are taking advantage of pre-screening.

Here's how it works.

You apply online and schedule an appointment at an enrollment center. That 10-minute appointment includes a background check and fingerprinting. Once you're approved, you add your Known Traveler Number to your ticket and you're all set.

Now for the small print. It's going to cost you $85 for a five-year membership. And the really fine print on the TSA website says:

TSA uses unpredictable security measures, both seen and unseen, throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened and no individual is guaranteed expedited screening.

If you are a frequent flier it's probably worth giving it a try, and you're in luck. Grand Junction Regional Airport is having an enrollment event through November 20. To schedule an appointment just go to the airport website. There are a few appointments still available.
