Closing Their Doors After 19 Years

If you drive by The Horse In Sport at 2685 Highway 50 on Orchard Mesa in Grand Junction, you'll see a huge "Going Out Of Business" sign draped across the front of the building.

Who Are They?

The Horse In Sport's official webpage states, "The Horse In Sport is Veteran owned and supports buying USA-made where ever possible and supports fellow local businesses." Their slogan reads, "Official saddler to the world's greatest horses ... yours!"

What Products and Services Do They Offer?

I stopped by the store on Thursday, December 8, to check out the inventory. The store sells everything from:

saddles for all western events
ropes
roping supplies
rodeo equipment
clothing
gloves
expert saddle fitting by the region's only qualified, saddle fitter
vitamin and mineral support for horses
... and a whole lot more

When Will They Close?

I spoke with the clerk on duty, and he mentioned the plan was to remain open until December 23, 2022. When asked why they were closing, he replied, "It's time."

Is This Goodbye?

Not necessarily. While their retail space is closing, they will continue to offer a number of services. The Horse In Sport's official Facebook page reads, "

After 19 years, The Horse In Sport is closing the store location. We will still have the Mobile unit at area Roping and Barrel Races. Tiger will continue saddle fittings by appointment.

Going Out Of Business Deals

Their Facebook page states, "Many departments are 40% off and there are special sales thru out. All sales are final. No refunds, credits or exchanges."

According to their Facebook page, their holiday hours now through December 23, 2022, are:

Monday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sometimes we just don't know a good thing until it's gone. That's exactly how I feel about a lot of businesses that have left the Grand Junction landscape in the last 15 years or so. These are businesses that somehow I didn't fully appreciate when they were here.
