Fisherman Catches Massive Cutbow Trout Near Steamboat Springs

A fisherman caught a massive cutbow trout near Steamboat Springs. Just look at this gigantic Colorado trout that's 27 inches long and weighs 12 pounds.

Brady Wettlaufer caught a trout that was so big, he had to ask for help to bring it in. After about 40 minutes of trying to bring this giant cutbow trout in, he asked some fellow fisherman for assistance.

Brady, a fishing guide and owner of Steamboat Fishing Adventures, caught the biggest cutbow trout he (and the rest of the fisherman) had ever seen. A cutbow trout is a hybrid, it's a cross between a rainbow and cutthroat trout.

The cutbow that Brady landed (which took an hour) was 27 inches long and weighed about 12 pounds. He caught this fly fishing, he said he caught it on his 4 wt flyrod with a hopper. Brady said he released it after he took some photos.

Brady was nice enough to share his hot spot with the fishermen that helped him land this massive cutbow trout. The other fishermen ended up catching some big trout too. What's true with fishing holds in life in general. What goes around comes around -- if you help someone land a massive fish, they'll tell you where to go to catch them, and you'll get one too.

Colorado's current state record for a cutbow by length is 33 1/2 inches. Our current state record for a cutbow by weight is 28.5 pounds. I can't imagine catching a trout that huge. When I saw Brady's fish, I did a double-take -- just look at this massive cutbow trout:
