Everybody knows cops and donuts go together just like peanut butter and jelly - at least that's the age-old stereotype.

The reality is cops and donuts do go together, but not necessarily in the way you might think - a group of officers sitting around a table in a donut shop drinking coffee.

Remember the Cops On the Roof Of Krispy Kreme?

Remember several years ago when local law enforcement officers camped out on the roof of Krispy Kreme out by Mesa Mall? The stunt was an effort to raise funds for Special Olympics Colorado as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser, which, by the way, celebrates its 40th year in 2021.

Supporting Special Olympics Colorado

Grand Junction's Krispy Kreme is long gone but Special Olympics Colorado is still going strong as is the effort by local law enforcement to support the cause. In recent years, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office has hosted a drive-up donut sale on National Donut Day. Last year, there was no donut sale because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year the donut sale is on.

Drive-Up Donut Sale

Friday, June 4 is National Donut Day and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office will be doing their drive-up donut sale in their parking lot at 215 Rice Street from 7am until 10 am. For $5 you can get two donuts and a drink, or a single donut for $2. If you want to take some donuts into the office, they have the Office Hero Dozen available for $15. Your co-workers will love you!

If you have some free time on Saturday, June 12, I would encourage you to stop by Stocker Stadium and check out the Special Olympics Colorado Western State Summer Games. It's a one-day event featuring special athletes from across the western slope. It means so much to these athletes to have fans in the stands cheering them on, not to mention the wonderful feeling you get when you watch them.
