For most Coloradoans, it's no surprise the state is incredibly sports friendly. Since basically all of the professional sports teams in the state are based in Denver, it should come as no surprise it's one of the best for sports fans.

A Wallethub survey found only one other city, Boston, Massachusetts more sports fan friendly than Denver.

Denver ranked number two overall in the survey that looked at professional sports teams in that city. By sport, Denver ranked 4th for football, 16th for basketball, 19th for baseball, 8th for hockey and 26th for soccer.

Here are the top five cities for sports fans:

  1. Boston, Massachusetts
  2. Denver, Colorado
  3. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  4. Washington, DC
  5. Chicago, Illinois

Three other mid-sized and smaller Colorado towns also made the list. Boulder, Ft. Collins and Greeley are all university towns with a long history of sports.

The study said sports is a $60 billion industry in the US and being a popular sports city means a lot to that city's economy.
