While working throughout the Centennial State, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers come across all kinds of unique and different animals on a daily basis.

Earlier this week, wildlife officers in Cañon City had a rare encounter with a black red fox.

Officers were originally sent to a home to assist with a young fox, who was responsible for raiding a chicken coop on the property. Once on scene, they located not only the fox they were looking for, but its sibling too - which looked very different from the other.

The second fox was all black, except for white on the tips of its paws and tail.

Red foxes sporting black coats are not a common occurrence. Typically, they are reddish brown, but do still have the white tips on their feet and tails.

The pair was taken to Wet Mountain Wildlife Rehab Center in Southern Colorado, until they are old enough to be released back into the wild. The nonprofit is operated by retired Pueblo teachers, Tom and Cec Sanders, who help rehabilitate big game animals for CPW.
