Continued Hot Windy Weather Hampering Wildfire Control Efforts

A Routt Country, Colorado wildfire grows over the weekend.

What started as a small 8-acre fire has grown to over 165 over the weekend. The fire's burning on Bureau of Land Management and private property southwest of Hayden, Colorado in Routt County. The Indian Run Fire as it's being referred to now was first spotted around 5 PM Saturday evening.

Hot, windy, and dry conditions fanned the flames. As of Monday morning, the fire has continued to grow. About 70 federal, state and local fire-fighters are on the scene. Fortunately, the fire is in a remote area and currently, no structures or humans are at risk. As of this afternoon, fire officials gave no estimate on when the fire might be contained. Initial reports are that lightning is likely the cause.

This week's continued hot and dry weather will only increase the fire hazard. As Palisade residents found out Friday evening, all it takes are a few errored sparks to have a fire break out. Immediately following Friday's Peach Festival fireworks display an orange glow appeared on the horizon as some brush caught fire and quickly spread. No structures were in danger and nobody was hurt.
