A marching band from Colorado will perform today at the presidential inauguration.

Congratulations to D’Evelyn Junior-Senior High School in southwest Denver. As a matter of fact, they are one of only two high schools in the country invited to perform.

How did this come about? According to FOX31, immediately following the election,  band Director Becky Paschke put in the application to be considered.

It’s a very complex application, where you have to submit photos and letters of recommendation and what you would perform if you were selected. Becky Paschke via FOX31

What will the band perform? Their chosen selection is "American Patrol." According to Wikipedia, American Patrol is a popular march written by Frank White (F.W.) Meacham in 1885. While originally arranged for piano, it was later arranged for wind ensembles in 1891.

Later, in 1942, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded a swing version. That recording was released by Victor Records.

According to FOX31, 100 band members and the color guard took 30 days to learn and practice the song. Band director Becky Paschke said, “We wanted to choose something that would represent America, a patriotic piece of music, and I kind of feel we all fell in love with it.”  She adds, "While the appearance may be virtual, the performance is 100% … the real McCoy."
