Since Thursday, Colorado Mesa University’s baseball team has been pleasing the hometown crowd during the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament at Suplizio Field.

Saturday was no different as CMU defeated West Texas A&M 9-6, thereby advancing the Mavericks to Sunday’s championship game.

CMU took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, and held onto the lead until the fifth inning, when West Texas scored 4 runs to tie the game. West Texas then took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 7th inning, but the Mavericks turned the tables with 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th and an additional run in the 8th to seal the game.

CMU may play West Texas A&M a second time in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. At this writing, Texas A&M-Kingsville was scheduled to play Tarleton State in Saturday afternoon’s elimination game, with the winner taking on West Texas A&M Saturday night.

The winner of Saturday night’s game will face Colorado Mesa in the championship game on Sunday.
